Following a briefing to Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, NGC confirmed that the initiative\u2014launched in January 2026\u2014remains on schedule, with a new operating model set to go live on July 1, 2026.<br><br>Government Support for Reform<br><br>During the briefing, Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari reiterated the government\u2019s full backing for the transformation.<br><br>\u201cNGC\u2019s reform effort reflects the kind of institutional change Pakistan\u2019s power sector urgently needs,\u201d said Minister Leghari. \u201cI commend the leadership and team for their focus on efficiency, transparency, and accountability. The government remains firmly committed to strengthening our national energy infrastructure through initiatives like this.\u201d<br>Leadership Driving Change<br><br>The transformation is led by Managing Director Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik, who took on the role in November 2025 and brings extensive experience in international utility management.<br><br>\u201cThis is about building a utility that is ready for the future\u2014agile, accountable, and aligned with global best practices,\u201d said Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik. \u201cWith strong momentum since January and continued support from the Ministry of Energy, we are on track to deliver a stronger, more capable organization\u2014one that will deliver a more efficient and reliable transmission system for Pakistan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing Long-Standing Structural Challenges<br><br>The transformation tackles organizational inefficiencies that have persisted since NTDC, NGC\u2019s predecessor company, was established in 1998. Although the company has since evolved into a dedicated Transmission Service Provider, its structure remained tied to the legacy NTDC model\u2014leading to fragmented accountability, overlapping functions, and coordination gaps.<br><br>Six Pillars of Restructuring<br><br>NGC\u2019s transformation is built on six strategic pillars:<br><br>\u2022 Unified Operations Leadership \u2013 to speed up project delivery<br>\u2022 Strengthened Financial Management \u2013 for greater transparency<br>\u2022 Dedicated Regulatory and Stakeholder Teams \u2013 to improve coordination<br>\u2022 Independent Safety Oversight \u2013 to make safety a top priority<br>\u2022 Streamlined Internal Processes \u2013 to reduce delays and bureaucracy<br>\u2022 Modern Digital Systems \u2013 to enable real-time data and smarter grid management<br>Progress and Timeline<br><br>Since the initiative began in January 2026, key leadership roles have been filled, performance metrics established, and new technology systems are nearing completion.
